Ralph Ewerth studied Computer Science with minor subject Psychology at the University of Frankfurt/Main and University of Marburg, respectively.
He received his Diploma in 2002 from the University of Marburg. From 2002 to 2008 he was a research associate in an interdisciplinary project (funded by German Research Foundation, DFG) at the University of Siegen and University of Marburg, respectively. In this project, he researched and developed video indexing algorithms which were aimed at supporting scientific media and film studies. He finished his PhD thesis in 2008 and worked until 2012 as a Post-doctoral researcher in the Distributed Systems Group at the University of Marburg. From 2012 to 2015 he held a professorship of Image Processing and Media Technology at the Jena University of Applied Sciences, in 2015 he served also as the Vice Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Since November 2015 Dr. Ewerth is professor at the Leibniz Universität Hannover and head of the research group Visual Analytics at the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB). His further research interests comprise semantic multimedia search and adaptive learning methods for multimedia indexing. Prof. Ewerth has published more than 40 research papers in the field of visual information retrieval and related areas.
